When does a democracy end and a theocracy begin? The film investigates the growing control exercised by evangelical leaders over Brazilian politics. The director gains access to the country’s top political leaders, including president Lula and former president Bolsonaro, as well as one of Brazil’s most famous pastors —a prominent figure who appears to manipulate certain politicians like puppets. Little by little, we observe the crucial role that fundamentalist sectors have played in recent Brazilian politics, revealing the apocalyptic theology that drives its main protagonists.
