The São Paulo International Film Festival dedicates the New Directors Competition to the production of filmmakers who present their first or second feature film. The 108 titles that integrate the section in 2021 are competing for the Bandeira Paulista Trophy. In the first stage of the selection, the public of this 45th edition will select their favorites, which will be then submitted to the anlysis of the specialized jury.

The list includes films selected at festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, Rotterdam, Sundance, Toronto and Annecy. Brazil has 18 selected titles, alongside works from Albania, Germany, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, China, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Ecuador, Spain, Estonia , United States, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Netherlands, Hungary, India, Italy, Iran, Iceland, Japan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Northern Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Kyrgyzstan, Czech Republic, Romania, Russia , Senegal, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Uruguay.
