Mondays in the Sun (2002)

Sobre o filme

Day-to-day life in a coastal city in the north of Spain, that has long ago abandoned agriculture, and is now industrialized, with immigrants and disorderly growth. The phantom of closing down the ship-building yard is in the air, and the pace of industrial production in the city does not offer the same number of jobs as previously. Rico’ bar is a meeting point for workers who gather in the small hours to share memories and projects, frustrations and hopes. They manage odd jobs, of short duration, and live on a tight rope, not sure how they will pay their bills at the end of the month. In Rico’ bar, they talk about these problems on a sunny Monday morning. The film was awarded the prize for best foreign film at the Gramado Festival and was nominated by Spain for the 2003 Oscar.
