The premise of the film is the investigation into the circumstances of the death of Billy the Kid at the age of 21, by the hand of Sheriff Pat Garrett on July 14, 1881. The center of the narrative is an imaginary dialog between the director and Billy, with the voice of Kris Kristofferson, actress and icon of the American West, immortalized in Sam Peckinpah?s classic, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973). The descendants of companions from the The Kid gang make statements and are part of an undertaking that traces the wanderings of the group in New Mexico at the end of the 19th century. The film is co-produced by filmmaker Jean-Jacques Beineix, filmmaker, among others, of Diva (1981) and The Moon in the Gutter (1983), selected for the 8th Mostra, and Betty Blue (1986).
