Billy Costigan is a young police officer at work under cover of a disguise and he has earned a position of extreme trust within a mafia organization in Boston, led by big shot Frank Costello. The same occurs with the police force, for a young criminal, Colin Sullivan, is also successful in infiltrating into enemy territory. Those who have infiltrated are under strain, leading a double life in a constant search for secrets from the rival faction. Violence explodes when both the police force and the mafia realize they are being spied upon. The irony is that both Costigan and Sullivan are detailed off to investigate the identity of the spy. A Hollywood re-filming of the Chinese police film Infernal Affairs, by Wai Keung Lau and co-scriptwriter Siu Fai Mak, released in 2002. It’s Martin Scorsese’s return to the urban thematic since Bringing Out the Dead (1999).
