The Black Pimpernel (2007)

Sobre o filme

The true story of the Swedish ambassador Harald Edelstam and his fight to save the lives of thousands of innocents during the Chilean dictatorship of 1973. After witnessing torture and abuse of authority, Edelstam called for human rights, justice and decency, and his constant actions placed his life in constant risk. The new dictatorship took over in Chile with full ferocity, assassinating thousands of people. When the military government was at the brink of invading the Cuban embassy, which would lead to almost a thousand asylum-takers being victimized, including six Brazilians, the ambassador took a stand. Demonstrating unheard heroism, he planted his country’s flag there and transformed the Cuban Embassy into the “new Swedish Embassy”. To save the refugees, he risked the life of his great love, against whom the regime had declared the death penalty. Harald Edelstam became one of the greatest heroes of modern times.
