My Life in Your Hands (2000)

Sobre o filme

Six o?clock in the morning in Rio de Janeiro. A silent city street, and a few people go by. The day is but beginning. Suddenly, two cars arrive on the scene at speed. The cars come to a stop, and a girl gets out and hides behind a newsstand. A man emerges from the other car, revolver in hand. He shoots the girl in the heart before aiming a shot at his own head, and he shouts: "Why are we alive?" The violence in the great cities, unemployment, and the hectic rushing about in the cities, among other "urban diseases" are shown by means of characters in a state of desperation. One of these is Antonio, professor and musician who works in an insurance company. He is dismissed, can not find himself another job and is soon in the world of crime. Julia, on the other hand, is a university professor who is bored with her affair, and is out for more of a thrill. Chance brings them together when Antonio, on the run after his first armed robbery, kidnaps Julia in front of the building where she lives and locks himself up with her in the apartment. He asks her: "Do you believe in fate?" Sex is there, and both spend the long weekend locked in, struggling to cope with antagonistic feelings: love, hate, passion, and violence. A mix of a police thriller and a love story, the film is fraught with sex, fear, romanticism, passion, and tears, at every moment. And so, to an unpredictable finale.
