Distant Lights (2003)

Sobre o filme

The river Oder does not only separate Frankfurt from Slubice, a city in Poland, but it is also the dividing line between two very different worlds. Rich and poor live in this area in search of happiness, but the barriers set up by the people themselves are unsurmountable. One example is Andreas, a cigarette trafficker who turned traitor because he has been thwarted in love. Ingo holds a franchise on cheap mattresses and is forever trying to stave off bankruptcy. Antoni, a Polish taxi driver, needs to find money for a dress for his daughter?s First Communion. Kolja, Anna, and Dimitri, three Ucranians in search of the ‘Golden West’ are also there. Moving counter to the tide are Sonja, a German translator for Russian refugees, and Phillip, a young western architect discovering that happiness also involves responsibility. The fate of these people is to change in two days of theft, deceit, love, assistance, hope, and despair.
