Lost, Lost, Lost (1976)

Sobre o filme

Recently restored, this almost three-hour long documentary provides a wide biographical and political spectrum, and was filmed between 1949 and 1963. The movie records his arrival in New York, where he took refuge from the Soviet domination of his native Lithuania, as well as his commitment to independent and underground movies in New York at the beginning of the 60s. At the 17th Mostra, the filmmaker was the subject of a retrospective that presented ten of his films, among them Lost, Lost, Lost, which reveals the concern of the artistic community with the social and political scenario of that time, in a chronological format. It is a collage of scenes filmed on the streets of Williamsburg, in Brooklyn, mixed, for example, with scenes of anti-Vietnam war protests, with a montage that echoes documental dictates practiced by European cinema. The 31st Mostra is also showing In the Shadow of the Light, by Sarah Payton and Chris Teerink, a documentary about the work of Mekas. A good part of his production can be seen and purchased at the site www.jonasmekas.com, with a collection of 40 short films and a section called "365 Films by Jonas Mekas", which holds an audiovisual diary.
