The Emerald Empire (2007)

Sobre o filme

Shot on location in remote regions of the Andes Mountains and in the subterranean emerald mines of Colombia, this special takes viewers to a ruggedly beautiful area that produces the finest emeralds in the world. In contrast to the elegance and beauty of emeralds, the region is also the scene of a long-running struggle for power and influence between voracious mine owners, desperately poor laborers, overmatched government officials and ruthless narcotraffickers. The Emerald Empire follows this diverse mix of characters as they battle for control over a region of Colombia where emeralds can bring great prosperity or a curse of false dreams of easy money. The program includes an up-close look at the controversial and normally elusive Victor Carranza, one of the largest landowners in South America. With a very colorful past, Carranza is widely considered to be Colombia’s "Emerald King." See show times for Double Session 12
