The same characters as in The Decline of the American Empire (1987), 15 years later. Remy, a history professor and indefatigable womanizer welcomes friends and relatives at his hospital bed. Louise, his former wife who left him because he was unfaithful, calls on both her children to come back to Canada. The younger daughter can not because she is sailing in the Pacific. The son, a ‚Äògolden boy‚Äô on the UK stock market, returns to Canada, much against his will. He is not on good terms with his father and has not set eyes on him for very long; he does decide, however, to gather his father?s mistresses and friends together before his father dies, Finally, to relieve his father’ suffering, he asks for police help to arrange for heroin. The film was awarded the prizes for best script (Denys Arcand) and best actress (Marie-Josée Croze) at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
