Warm Water Under a Red Bridge (2001)

At the age of 40, Yosuke is to start a new life. He is jobless and has been abandoned by wife and child. His only escape is to listen to the stories told by Taro, a good-for-nothing who lives in the streets of Tokyo, and to go in search of a vase that contains a statue of Buddha in gold. Taro says he stole it from a temple in Kyoto and that he had hidden it, many years previously, on the banks of a river on the peninsula of Noto, near to a red bridge. Taro’ proposal was extremely simple. Yosuke was to keep the statue but, in exchange, must tell of his journey in every detail. In Noto, Yosuke finds the red bridge, but not the statue in gold. His life is nevertheless to be transformed for there he meets Saeko, a beautiful girl with supernatural powers. Saeko can, for instance cause flowers to bloom and, when she is involved in a situation of extreme pleasure, she sheds water in quantities from her body. This is miraculous water that, in contact with the river, attracts the fish from the sea and, in contact with Yosuke, restores his lost vitality.
