Alan is a little over 20, living in Boston, and his band has just folded up. The group has met with some renown in the past, and he therefore decides to try and go solo, as a career, in New York. He arranges for an appointment for an interview on a radio program presented by DJ Sarah. Both become involved and spend the night together, but he is little interested in starting an affair. Alan prefers to drink and to speculate about the future with a couple, Lawrence and Ellie. Little by little, without his being aware, Alan and Ellie become much more than just good friends.
