In the 80’s in Cabo Verde, on the island of São Nicolau, in the small village of Ribeira Funda, the inhabitants decided to leave the place, frightened by a series of tragic events that took place on the island, attributing those tragedies to the forces of evil that lives in the surroundings. Mr. Quirino is the only resident that refused to leave. For four decades, he has refused the help from the local authorities and friends to move him out. Nowadays, he lives in a ghost village, with only his pets for company. Confronted with an uncertain future and the grueling weight of isolation, disease and old age, for the first time in his life, he’s starting to accept the idea that he might need to leave the only place he has ever known.
